Raising Reading Achievement through Cutting-Edge Research
In partnership with Duval County Public Schools, we are thrilled to host Dr. Matthew Burns from the University of Florida Literacy Institute and Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson, LETRS Co-Author.
Join us virtually as they share cutting-edge research to inform the most effective strategies and interventions for raising students' reading achievement.

10:45 am -11:30 am ET: Connecting Writing to the Science of Reading: Foundations for Developing Readers and Writers With Lucy Hart Paulson
An increased understanding of the Science of Reading (SoR) is making positive and important impacts on literacy instruction. However, a focus on the science of writing has not had the same level of traction as reading instruction. Yet, a solid body of research supports the importance of interconnecting writing with reading instruction, especially in the early literacy time period. This session describes the developmental and interconnected sequences of foundational writing skills, with connections to reading; assessment strategies; and research-based instruction techniques to help young children build foundation writing and reading skills in the early grades.
11:30 am -12:15 pm ET: Raising Reading Achievement for Emerging Readers: In the Middle Lies Opportunity with Dr. Matthew Burns, University of Florida Literacy Institute
An effective multi tiered system of support depends on effective interventions at all tiers, but which intervention do you pick? This interactive session will demonstrate how to use screening data to identify the type of reading intervention that students need and will discuss specific interventions to address them.
